Award season is upon us and last night the Golden Globes 2016 kicked off the season with some bright bold colours on the Red Carpet, as well as lots of sparkle.
Vivid colours are a big Spring Summer 2016 Trend but you need to ensure that the colours you wear do not over power your natural skin tone.
The ladies who got it bang on last night include, Jennifer Lopez in a stunning mustard Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Gown, the Harry Winston jewellery in particular the necklace is stunning sitting in THE most perfect position on the neckline of the dress and cape.
The image of J-Lo in this dress literally stopped me in my tracks, this girl knows how to stop traffic and this look is exquisite. I am NOT a fan of mustard or yellow but when worn on the correct skintone it can look impeccable as J-Lo does here. The colour compliments and enhances the warm golden tones within her skin and hair colouring and at 46 years of age she definatley shows these young up and coming stars how to do show stopping red carpet looks.
My next choice when it comes to bold vivid colours and shapes is Jaimie Alexander, if you’re not aware of her she is the lead actress in a Sky programme called Blindspot which I’m obsessed by.
Jaimie looks beautiful in this Italian Designer gown by Genny, she has naturally deep colouring which means there is a high contrast between her dark hair and eyes and porcelain skin.
I love how the deep plunging neckline is sexy but not overtly booby, the fullness of the skirt doesn’t swamp her at all and the hair and earrings pulls the look together so that she really makes an impact on the carpet.
My number one look though may feel a bit obvious. I can not help my fangirl feelings towards Jennifer Lawrence. Yes, I’m fully aware that she has designers bending over backwards to dress her. No doubt there is a whole team of stylists, hair and make up that ‘create’ this look but seriously…Look at her! She is fast becoming an icon of our times. Is it too early to start throwing around statements like this? Possibly. But after watching her on Graham Norton and Hunger Games just this weekend I’m reminded of her funny, unapologetic, laid back, talented and beautiful soul. So you know what, she deserves to be projected onto our screens looking like the superstar she is..
Last night, unsurprisingly, she wore Dior and Chopard jewellery.
Red is certainly her colour, it suits her and has been a colour she has worn before. I love the simplicity of the cut, the modern cropped top and the shape, hugging and slinking around her beautiful frame. The diamond collar is something else, it sets the whole look off. Simple, demure and elegant. Stunning!
Finally worthy of note had to be the Game of Thrones girls, showing the Americans that the Brits are always going to bring it to the Red Carpet fashion wise.
I thought Emilia Clarke’s gothic glamour look in Valentino Haute Couture, was in stark contrast to her character Daenerys Targaryen. It was the one black dress for me which stood out as being glamourous enough for a red carpet of this magnitude and fashion forward all at the same time.
Natalie Dormer known for her fierce characters in both Sherlock and Game of Thrones, showed her feminine side in a beautiful, simple red gown by J Mendel which taps into another big trend for SS16 with the off the shoulder look. This is another red gown but demonstrating a variant on the shade which suited her more cool muted skintone, a much more muted shade when compared to Jennifer Lawrence in Dior.
