Christmas Party Dresses

December is finally here and I can start to talk about CHRISTMAS PARTY DRESSES!!!
Oh my gosh, its simply my favourite time of the year. More is more when it comes to what to wear to your Christmas party and with many of us starting to plan our outfits I thought I’d make a few suggestions based on this season’s key trends including Glitz & Glam which includes lurex, metalic threads, fur and sparkle! Gothic Glam is also really hot with lots of velvet and victoriana lace blouses with high necklines and LOTS of pleather/leather.
My challenge is to find a dress for each body shape for under £150 so that we can ensure there’s plenty left over in the kitty for some fabulous cocktails!

I love this metallic embroidered dress from Warehouse its £150 so its at the very top end of my budget but is a perfect example of Glitz & Glam with the high shine metallic threads used within the emboridery. You will dazzle under the disco lights in this one.

The dress would look great on someone with a little bit of shape to their hips and waist, it draws you in at the waist emphasising your curves and the embroidered net arms will give great arm coverage to those who feel a little concious of their upper arms. Demure and chic without being over sexy this dress will appeal to those who like to feel pretty and feminine.

My second choice for ladies with a Semi Straight body shape ( these are ladies with a little definition to their hips and waist) is this Oasis Purple dress. I first saw this concept as a bridesmaid dress so I’m really glad that the High Street has taken the Bridesmaid label off this and brought it out as a straight forward dress. Put simply for £60 you can have 9 different dresses, thats right 9! That equates to £6.66 per dress, its a bargain!

For £60 you can afford to team this with some statement jewellery to bring the Glitz but which ever way you wear this multi way dress you’ll definatley be Glam!

This year I discovered an amazing brand called Finery London, its somewhere between a grown up Zara and French Connection. I love its unfussy, classic yet contemporary styling and this dress is no exception.

A dress like this with little shaping to it, where when you hold it up it is straight up and down is the best style of dress for ladies with a similarly straight body shape. If you’re always complaining you have no waist and insist on belting things to create a waist, this is the dress for you. Stop trying to create a waist where there isn’t one, the best silhouette and the best way to dress for your shape is to follow the contours of your shape thus why a straight cut or shift dress is the best style of dress for you. This shimmery flapper style dress will give you every excuse to shake your tush to really bring this fun dress to life and its only £129!
My second pick for those straight ladies is this stunner from French Connection I had to take a double take at the price when I saw it was £130, you could easily assume this is a £200+ dress.

There’s enough bling on here to give the Christmas Tree a run for its money! Personally I’d style the dress with a more dainty pair of strappy heels compared to the ones FCUK have chosen as I’d like the look to be more feminine and less clumpy. While the dress has waist detail within the sequins, when you look at the image of the dress from the back you can see there is very little shape to the dress itself and thus making it perfect for you straight girls.
For shaped girls with wider hips but tiny waists a fit and flare dress is the best style for you, now that doesn’t mean to say that you need to necessarily wear A line. You could wear something like this from Monsoon

It was a waistband, drawing you in at your waist with a soft open weave fabric skirt which will float and swish over your hips creating a beautiful silhouette complimenting your shape, a great option if you have a more formal black tie occasion.
If a floor length is too formal and you’re seeking something a little more fun, try this Coast dress from John Lewis don’t risk losing it as you can utilise their Click & Collect service and why not check out the very swishy new store in Birmingham at Grand Central while you’re at it.. Its a fabulous store and a great addition to the city.

The fit and flare style of this dress is perfect for those with shape as it emphasis’s the narrowest part of your body, your waist! It flatters your curves and who doesn’t want to feel as pretty as a ballerina!
My favourite part is the sequin detail on the shoulder/collar bone area which reminds me of a prom corsage but more chic..
