I’ve had great fun “researching” the High Street’s latest Autumn Winter collections, and after many disappointing seasons River Island is a surprise this Autumn.
I literally couldn’t choose just six items to share with you, there was too much to choose from, which is a welcome change of form for the retailer.
I do sometimes fear if the brand is too young for me (I’m knocking on 40 you know) but while the majority is aimed at the 18-35 yr old lithe young things, there are some key on trend/ classic pieces you can pick up and look stylish but not too young.
Speaking of classic, a piece I recommend to all my clients to have in their wardrobe is a well fitting trench coat
Autumn is dark and dismal enough without adding to it by wearing dark coloured coats. I like the light grey colour of this trench, it is in the classic trench style and will suit ladies with curves with it’s belted style.
Culottes move across into this season after coming to the fore in SS15. To update the look wear with knee boots underneath in a toning colour, ie forest green and dark brown boots. The colours of the season will be deep berry reds and bold forest greens.
I am obsessed with hats! Don’t mention my love of hats to my BFF or she’ll tell you “the beret story”, let’s just say the 90’s was a cruel decade for fashion!
I love this bold red floppy hat , I’m a little fearful it may be a bit much for the school run but hey I’m sure I could find an occasion to wear it if forced ;0)
Leopard print is a trend that can be carried across all seasons, so when I saw these pumps with a decent (not too high) heel I had to include them.
By adding print to a look that is otherwise quite plain you create a focal point and add interest to the look, I do love leopard over many prints as it is an everlasting trend so you’ll get your monies worth.
The Fur & Fluff trend is key this season, you can opt for fake (my preference if I’m honest) pretty much anywhere on your outfit. Look for fur collars or even cuffs to jumpers, fluffy skirts and fur stools are everywhere as a way of updating old coats to make them more current. This Sleeveless coat may seem a ridiculous option given that it’s due to grow colder but I’d style this with a woolly polo neck and leather gloves to keep me toastie.
My last choice is a twist on the essential (P)Leather skirt, a piece that should adorn your wardrobe for the sole reason that you can wear it just about anywhere. I can see this at work with a polo neck/jumper with boots, drinks with the girls with a silky cami and heels or on the dance floor with something glittery. The twist here is the skirtcombines a suede panel which I think gives it a great look.
You could style this skirt with both the trench coat, the hat or the heels! I do love a multi tasking piece that can be worn in lots of different ways.
I’m off up town to treat myself to all of the above! Drop me a tweet or Facebook message with your stylish autumn treats.
