I, like most of us have a day job which restricts me sitting up all night watching the Oscars. However this morning to me is like Christmas Day, in fact I probably get more excited on this morning than Christmas Day, the anticipation of the beautiful couture gowns which graced the Oscars red carpet had me logging on at 6am just to see who wore what.
My friend Sophie and I excitedly discussed our best and worst dressed before we’d even put the kettle on at work this morning, some we agreed on, some not so much.
I have very high expectations of these celebrities, I expect old world Hollywood glamour and nothing less, a few however I don’t think brought enough of it. This is THE most glamorous event anywhere, ever, come on people pick your game up!
For me the ladies that really delivered on the red carpet last night were Rosamund Pike in Givenchy. While it’s not big and bold, this sleek red dress has the wow factor. It skims and hugs her figure beautifully, some might say wearing a red dress on the red carpet is a no no but I feel it still has fantastic stand out.
While it was Eddy Redmayne that took the spot light and the Oscar, Birmingham girl Felicity Jones grabbed that Old Hollywood Glamour theme and ran with it. Everything about this Alexander McQueen dress and the accessories screams Hollywood Starlet. Beautiful.
I have to agree with my friend Sophie and say that Kiera Knightley has really taken pregnancy chic to a whole new level with this Valentino gown. Delicate, intricate, detailed and above all flattering with her growing baby bump. I love her ethereal look, the hair and make up with the dress are wonderful.
Others worthy of a mention include Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford.
An elegant, timeless, chic look in Monochrome will always stand the test of time rather than a trend led piece which when you look back in twenty years will make no sense.
Sadly those who disappointed me, I really did expect more from. I feel like I should wash my mouth out with soap and water when I utter the words “Chanel” in the same sentence as disappointed, but Julianne Moore I’m sorry! Why didn’t you have the detail across your hips, the widest part of your body, altered and lifted to your waist? The detail on her hips creates a drop hem feature to the dress which would have looked much more flattering had it been on her waist. The colour of the gown overall, washes out her skin tone as well. Such a massive shame that I have to say this but sorry, she should have shone bright like a diamond.
And finally Nicole Kidman what were you thinking? None of this is redeeming at all. The colour of the dress does not sit well on her skintone, the red belt jars with her hair colour and the clutch doesn’t remotely match. Nicole, tut tut, I really expect more from you! So sad.
