Golden Globes 2014 – The Great & The Good

Awards season has been kicked off in style with the 71st Annual Golden Globes last night and I love nothing better than checking out the red carpet pics to see all the gorgeous frocks, jewellery and of course shoes!
Guaranteed to brighten this miserable Monday here’s a quick round up of my favourites with a guide to who wore what.
First up the dazzling beauties in Dior, Emma Watson wore this super sexy edgy frock which she matched with fab chic poses on the red carpet.

Jennifer Lawrence May seem like an obvious choice but she was clearly taken under the wing of Dior early in her career and they tend to be her frock of choice. The cynic in me thinks an exclusive marketing deal has been struck whereby they are her sole supplier of red carpet attire, but who can blame her when you have your choice of frocks like this. And who cares if she trips up, or is a little clumsy it all gets papped and creates column inches for Dior.

Kate Beckinsale is a big style crush of mine, the girl can do no wrong in my eyes and she has delivered last night in this Zuhair Murad dress. The gunmetal metallic colour gives the dress an edgy look while the shape remains sultry and demure.

Cate Blanchet in Armani may have seemed a little safe from the front shots, but it’s the back of the dress that gives it the wow factor. I love the impact a backless dress has on people, it’s super sexy yet the lace gives it that feminine feel.

Two dresses stood out for me not only because the dresses were stunning but equally so the actresses whom I (to be fair) didn’t recognise and due to their fantastic choices for last nights red carpet are being talked about worldwide.
You guys may recognise them, but I certainly had to google them.
Margot Robbie looks incredible in this Gucci gown, the emerald jewelled edging is stunning and highlighted perfectly by those shoes…stunning!

I’m yet to see it but Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave stands out from the crowd in this Ralph Lauren Cape dress, unique shape and striking. The dress is complemented by her edgy confident crop. I’ll be looking out for her on future red carpets, I think this is just the beginning of some fabulous style from this beautiful woman.

Michelle Dockery of Downton Abbey either gets red carpet couture really right or not quite there, never massively wrong to be fair but I think it’s fair to say she’s still finding her “look” for the red carpet.
I do think she got it right last night this dip hem embellished Oscar de la Renta gown needs little accessorising as it dazzles on its own.

Award winning Amy Adams looked super sultry in this knock your eyes out Valentino gown, I think the softness of the up do she choose for her hair softens the dress and makes it a little less in your face.

Finally Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta, the shape of this dress is quite clever really as the top layered section draws your eyes to her small waist and the skirt while layered cleverly does not add bulk around her thighs. But let’s face it, all the technicalities aside it’s a really pretty dress but the style of it avoids it being too girly or twee despite the super feminine fabrics. Plus the matching shoes are fabulous.

The Bafta’s are in mid February so I’ll be back then with more of my favourite frocks.
